KlokWurX™

A new-millenium name for our long established business.

HISTORY
Many entrepreneurial businesses find it difficult, if not impossible, to separate the events of early years of their business history from similar events in the life of the key-figure in the organisation.
During the early years it is generally the founders drive and passion which keeps the corporate ship on the correct course.
It is the Founder who moulds the business into a vehicle for his own desires, his own interests.
Thus it is with KlokurX™.

Our own history is explicitly linked with the life and ambitions of the person who created us.
This History then reads more like a biography of one man than the account of a business during its development, ... but then that is not uncommon and we believe we are a better organisation for that.

With a background deeply rooted in traditional engineering our founder's childhood was spent surrounded by the machinery and tools of construction and engineering. His father taught him to 'read' (interpret) Blueprints before he could read the words on the paper. Thus it was that our founders involvement with engineering was instilled almost from birth, and continues to this day.

Our history begins in Scotland, during the early 1970's.
Registered in Edinburgh during 1974 as TimeCrafts. Our founder had originally registered the name in association with his fledgling manufacturing Goldsmith interests, but his fascination with all manner of miniature and scale models of machinery and engines (particularly those from the period of steam power and anything that, even remotely, looked like a clock) was never far from his thoughts.
As the business developed he decided to utilise his passion for these precision mechanisms by undertaking a British Horological Institute course of study in the practical and theoretical aspects of engineering related to both watches and clocks (horology). During his final exams he gained Distinctions in both the 'Theory' and 'Practical' aspects of all manner of timepieces.
As mentioned he was already an accomplished Goldsmith and Silversmith, with his own Sponsor's Marks registered with the Edinburgh Assay Masters, he held advanced educational qualifications in Business and Law, therefore any other person might have been content with having added the BHI qualification to his portfolio of qualifications and achievements; ...but our founder's interest in all branches of engineering continued unabated.
Designing and making scale miniature models of past machinery had always been his personal hobby. Now it was allowed to be part of his business also.
TimeCrafts was one of the first organisations to recognise that the skills of the watchmaker could be equally applied to the new desktop and personal computers which were appearing in offices. We manufactured some of the first miniature gearsets for OEM's in the Computer Industry.

This involvement in all areas of 'precision in miniature', across all areas of engineering, has led our corporate vision from the earliest stages of our business development.

From 1979 we have supplied our 'Watch and Clock Repair Facility' to both the trade and public via Mail Order and Area Agents. With our growing network of contacts and customers, and utilising our founders business qualifications and expertise in retail operations, we also at that time began supporting the retail and wholesale gift, jewellery, and watch & clock proprietor with specialist services aimed at increasing their business value and profits.

Through the personal involvement of our founder we were the first organisation to offer a specialist 'jewellery-and-watch-business' brokerage and management service to the retail owner/operator who wish to sell or reitre from his/her business in a discrete and professional way. We have been conducting business valuations for the specialist retailer since 1982; and have assisted many hundreds of owners to realise the best price possible for their businesses when the time comes to hand over the reins to a new owner.
Our Trading Partner pages contain a pro-forma Valuation Template, complete with all instructions, that you can use to privately value your own business.

As the 1980's progressed our founder became (in his own words) "... a perpetual student ..", he completed yet another advanced education course, this time in, 'Instrumentation Electronics and Controls Engineering'. During the 1990's and towards the Millenium he continued with even more university studies including 'mechatronics' and 'robotics'. His name was first recorded on the UK's Engineering Council professional register during 1990.
This continual drive for engineering knowledge and skills development permeates to every level of the KlokWurX's business, and we are proud of the range of professional services we can offer.

In short then: ...we have been directly involved in the management consultancy, design-manufacture, and support services associated with the Horology, Jewellery, and Precision Engineering trades (mechanical, electronic and electrical) across the UK, and increasingly on a global scale, for more than 30 years.

Over those early long years we have witnessed other businesses come and go where, for a short-time, they attempted to trade off our existing Business Name (we were the original Registrants of the 'TimeCrafts' name and retain all the original documentation relating to the registration from 1974). In 2003 (and frankly being somewhat tired of the copycat traders) we changed our name to the more stylised KlokWurX™. This change also coincided with our increasing use of the internet as our primary publicity and contact medium.
We believe that our new name strengthens our brand image, incorporating as it does our unique TradeMark spelling and logo, and we would ask all to note that our protection of our KlokWurX(tm) Branding will be carried out with vigour and to the full extent of International Laws, as the Scottish national Motto proclaims "Nemo Me Impune Lacessit".
